چکیده
On one hand, PSA results are increasingly used in decision making, system management and optimization of system design. On the other hand, when severe accidental transients are considered, dynamic reliability appears appropriate to account for the complex interaction between the transitions between hardware configurations, the operator behavior and the dynamic evolution of the system. This paper presents an exploratory work in which the estimation of the system unreliability in a dynamic context is coupled with an optimization algorithm to determine the “best” safety policy. Because some reliability parameters are likely to be distributed, the cost function to be minimized turns out to be a random variable. Stochastic programming techniques are therefore envisioned to determine an optimal strategy. Monte Carlo simulation is used at all stages of the computations, from the estimation of the system unreliability to that of the stochastic quasi-gradient. The optimization algorithm is illustrated on a HNO3 supply system. q 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.

Development of the step complexity measure for emergency operating procedures using entropy concepts
The measure that can evaluate step complexity of emergency operating procedures is developed. To verify appropriateness of developed measure, some comparative evaluations were performed. From these comparisons, it can be concluded that developed measure reasonably quantifies the degree of step complexity.
متن کاملModeling of uncertainties in reliability centered maintenance - a probabilistic approach
Uncertainties in the decision making of reliability centered maintenance (RCM) are discussed. These uncertainties might be unacceptable in many practical applications, leading to non-optimum maintenance strategies. An alternative approach, opening for speci®ed uncertainties is shown to correct this defect. Exemplifying the approach, a simple ®re detection system is discussed. q 2001 Elsevier Sc...
متن کاملCriticality and sensitivity analysis of the components of a system
In the design of complex systems there is a great interest to know the relative importance of each of their elements. In this paper, we define a new method for measuring the relative importance of each element of the system. We have to specify that this paper concerns only nonrepairable systems and components. We present a way of calculating the criticality of each component for a complex syste...
متن کاملCost minimization for periodic maintenance policy of a system subject to slow degradation
This paper considers a repairable system which undergoes preventive maintenance (PM) periodically and is minimally repaired at each failure. In this paper, we consider the situation where each PM relieves stress temporarily and hence slows the rate of syst...
متن کاملA new model with bathtub-shaped failure rate using an additive Burr XII distribution
It is a common situation that the failure rate function has a bathtub shape for many mechanical and electronic components. A simple model based on adding two Burr XII distributions is presented for modeling this type data. The graphical estimation on probability paper is illustrated, and examples of its usage are presented. The Akaike Information Criterion was used for judging the adequacy of t...
